Along with many congregations of the Presbyterian Church (USA) nationwide, we commemorated International Women’s Day on March 8 with a worship service on March 7 called Celebrate the Gifts of Women Sunday. Betsy Champlin, Sally Lockhart, and Karen Donovan shared scripture readings and sermons. Deb Matson, Gail Tonnessen, and Hannah Miller delivered a message to the children about their experience of rebuilding houses in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. During the offering, we enjoyed a quartet of voices as Karen Drolet, Sally Lockhart, Deborah Schoenfelder, and Gail Tonnessen sang their version of “Blessed Assurance.” Betsy Dietrich served as lector, and Dotsie Shaw led us through the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.
Celebrate the Gifts of Women Sunday is a project of Racial Ethnic and Women’s Ministries/Presbyterian Women:
Equipping, empowering and inspiring individuals, congregations and the whole church to develop Presbyterian communities of faith that reflect our multicultural society, build leaders of every race and gender and work for racial and gender justice.
